Hey sisters, I need your help
September 23rd, 2006
This is a call for comments from people who read this blog. I know there’s more than a few of you because I can see my stats…
I’ve decided to return to the Immanent Grove for a long retreat - at least three months of cold, stark, meditative living in the middle of nowhere for the Winter. Yup, three months it is: a girl’s gotta follow her heart.
In the few weeks between now and then, I’d really like feminish to be as lively and active as possible. I’ve realised how much I’ve got to say. (And at least here the readership is voluntary; I can’t say the same for the victims of my TV/ supermarket/ front-room rants…) But I’m also pretty sure this can act as a provocative forum - especially for the E1 ladeez.
Since I’m really appreciating the mind-blowing feminist blogosphere (especially those lasses linked to in the sidebar), I’ve also made a vow to be a more active commenter. My British reserve has been chucked out the window and it better not creep back in…
So, I want to ask for your help in what you’d like me to write about. A certain Ms Morgan (you know who you are) has requested an article on the latest craze for right-hand diamond rings and another Feminish redux, this time on The Second Sex. I’m sure one AEJS might like a bit more feisty stuff on current things in the news, no? (I was a bit shocked to find I only have 2 posts tagged under ‘politics’…) What might Mademoiselle Bek like to see? Or my silent readers? Don’t be shy!
I can write more on my brand of feminism, but don’t want to bore your socks off. I can write about my feminish buddhism, but I’ve been hesitating a bit. For a while now I’ve been wanting to do a long series of Daily-Mail dissecting (following in the formidable footsteps of bookdrunk). I keep thinking of the awesome Natalie Bennett and how I should also put my women’s history snippets online (especially the basic exciting stuff I wish we’d all been taught at school). And perhaps I shouldn’t shy away from the whole pornography malarky, which Rilke keeps nagging me about.
You just tell me and I’ll do it…. you can use the comments thread below.
After all, I’m not just on the planet to meditate, take care of the tomatoes, make jam and write funding applications…

September 23rd, 2006 at 4:51 pmHey,
I apologise for any previous lack of comment- this doesn’t mean that I don’t check feminish at least once a day. I guess I am intimidated about writing anything that will be up here for all to read and judge…
Anyway, as you asked for help, the articles that I most like to read are those that are about your life and how you use your experience at the immanent grove to deal with/enjoy/take time for the experiences that arrive in a small corner of the Dordogne or on your trips back to the big smoke and the Suffolk corner of this world.
Maybe this is because I am not particularly intellectual, maybe because hearing about these random events in your daily life makes me feel closer to you even though you are so many miles away, or maybe because for me I like to hear the wisdom that you are picking up on this journey that you are on.
Whatever reason it is. For now my request is that you continue to write away about your life and experiences…I want to hear more about jam and grandmothers and tomatoes…

September 23rd, 2006 at 5:23 pmSisters? Please know that some of your brothers in shared humanity are also devotees of this site.
So if I’m allowed a vote (and I can see that there would be a certain rough-justice in not allowing me one) then let’s hear it for Buddishm and Feminishm…

September 23rd, 2006 at 5:37 pmHey guys, I knew you were all there somewhere. Thanks for all your good words. I’ll get furrowing on some of my favouritest women’s history nuggets (I’ll create a new category in their honour), but I’ll also settle and think so I can write clearly and honestly on jam, grannies and tomatoes.
And yes, palimpsest, your vote counts. Thanks for braving the fray.
Any more for any more?
